Methane Gas


Conversion of plant material into methane gas is a rather young branch in agriculture. Since understandably rather little experience has been gained in the production of methane gas generally as well as specifically with triticale, special experiments have been started with the intention to

> find amongst the existing varieties the most ideally suited to this goal,
> find out the right production technique,
> investigate the proper moment for cutting.


First results indicate that there are varieties available which seem to be qualified for producing methane gas economically.

Specific Breeding for Methane Gas Varieties


Outside Europe, for example in the US, Canada and also in China, plant breeders have created octoploid primary triticales (the term is explained under Triticale Breeding ) for feeding whole plants to cattle – straight, as silage or as hay. It has been reported that such varieties are better suited than other forage plants.

In case production of methane gas from plants is desired and economical, new targets in triticale breeding will be likely.

Polluted Grains


As a matter of fact, greatest care in cultivation does not exclude the possibility that the crop does not meet the requirements for food and feed. A verification carried out by an authority in Germany shows that grain polluted with fusarium is totally harmless if used for converting into methane gas. For details please get in Contact to me.
